How to install VirtualBox on Fedora 20


VirtualBox is one of the easiest ways to get any virtual OS up and running on many Linux distributions. VirtualBox allows you to install any kind of O.S inside a virtual enviroment, this can be really helpful to test out many things without risking your current PC Operating System.

On this tutorial you will learn How to Install VirtualBox on Fedora 19/20 using the Oracle official repo.

Open a shell terminal and type this to become root:

su -

Install VirtualBox requirements:

yum install kernel-headers kernel-devel dkms gcc -y 
yum update -y

Download VirtualBox

mkdir /root/temp
cd /root/temp
wget -O /etc/yum.repos.d/virtualbox.repo

Install VirtualBox

yum install VirtualBox-4.3 -y 
/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

Add your username to the virtualbox users

usermod -G vboxusers -a username

Replace “username” with your real system username.
Once done, reboot your system to boot with the new kernel:

shutdown now -r

Just in case, run vboxdrv again:

/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

Then go to your Applications menu and open VirtualBox, it should be up and running.
